The Commissionerate Police on Tuesday announced restrictions on traffic movement on August 11, 13 and 15 in view of the Independence Day parade at Mahatma Gandhi Marg.
The rehearsals for the parade would be held on August 11 from 2 pm to 5 pm and from 7 am to 10 am on August 13. The Independence Day parade would be held at the Mahatma Gandhi Marg from 7 am on August 15. As per the Commissionerate Police notification, no heavy vehicle will be allowed to come towards Master Canteen Square either from Ram Mandir Square or from Rajmahal crossing from 7 am of August 15 till the parade is over. Two-wheelers and light vehicles will be allowed from Rajmahal crossing towards Ram Mandir up to Master Canteen Square but cannot turn towards PMG Square.
No vehicle will be allowed to come towards Rabindra Mandap crossing from Housing Board crossing from 6.30 am and will be diverted at Keshari talkies. No vehicles will also be allowed towards PMG Square from AG Square side and will be diverted from Jaydev Bhawan crossing towards IG Park.
Vehicles coming from 120 Infantry Battalion crossing will be diverted at MLA Colony crossing. All the lanes touching Mahatma Gandhi Marg will be sealed except for pedestrians.These restrictions would also be imposed during the Rehearsals on August 11 between 2 pm and 6 pm and on August 13 between 7 am and 11 am.
The police have also banned selling of gas balloons in the region between PMG Square and Master Canteen Square on August 15 from 6.30 am till the end of the parade. A gas balloon cylinder explosion in 2002 during the Republic Day parade had led to blinding of about 10 children. The police have also notified parking spaces at eight locations, including BDA bus stand near Railway Station, spaces in front of Congress Bhawan, IDCOL auditorium, Jaydev Bhawan, SBI and Rabindra Mandap along with Keshari talkies and Unit-II Girl’s High School.
