Kolkata: Ahead of chief minister Biplab Deb’s scheduled visit to attend the BJP’s Bengal Rath Yatra, chief secretary of Tripura L K Gupta has written to his West Bengal counterpart Malay Kumar De over the lack of security and arrangements made by the Cooch Behar police.
Deputy Superintendent of Police, Tripura, Kamal Sukla Das was sent to Cooch Behar for the Advance Security Liaison drill for CM Deb’s visit, during which, he found that no arrangements for transportation and accommodation were made by the Cooch Behar police.
Biplab Deb was supposed to attend BJP’s ‘Save Democracy Yatra’ in Cooch Behar on December 7. However, the event has been stalled after Calcutta High Court denied permission to hold it based on security grounds.
In his letter, Gupta mentioned, “The Tripura CM belongs to Z+ category security and he was scheduled to visit Cooch Behar on December 7, 2018. Our officer had gone there for ASL duty and reported that the police neither made arrangements for his accommodation nor his transport. I would like you to kindly get the matter enquired into and take appropriate action against the erring officials.”
Das had alleged that when he reached Cooch Behar at midnight, he had to spend the night at the platform because of the ‘non-cooperative attitude’ of the police.
“I reached the Additional SP’s office in Cooch Behar by hiring a private vehicle but he refused to share the security/arrangements details of the Tripura CM saying that the matter is sub judice. He said that the details could not be shared without the permission of the court,” he added.
No one in the district administration/police in Cooch Behar was available for comments.
