Mumbai: Udedhbun, a short film made in Bhojpuri with Marathi actors in the lead has bagged the prestigious Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival in the Short Films category.

Directed by Siddharth Sinha, a graduate of FTII Pune, the film deals with the dilemmas of a teenage boy caught between two women. However, the actors say that language was hardly an issue.

“A Marathi teenager and a teenager from UP will think in the same manner. So, I had no problems in playing the part,” says Actor, Aloke Rajwade.

“The film is about relationships. It is about a mother and a son relationship. It is in Hindi, Marathi and it is in Bhojpuri. It really does not matter,” says Actor, Shubhangi Damle.

Shubhangi has been acting in Marathi serials and commercials since last few years. For Aloke, it was his debut film. While the Mumbai for Maharashtrians issue is on the boil recently, these actors are not bothered.

“It’s great that people who speak Marathi and Bhojpuri came together and made this film and there are many who are fighting on the same issue,” says Shubhangi.

It seems to be a new trend where many Marathi actors are acting in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and non-Maharashtrian films.
