Almost 20 days after a BJP leader's son was abducted by ULFA militants, a video showing the victim surrounded by masked gunmen has been leaked by the outfit along with a demand for 1 crore rupees as ransom for his release.
Kuldeep Moran, son of Tinsukia Zila Parishad's vice president Ratnaswer Moran, was abducted by ULFA militants on August 1.
The state police immediately swung into action to trace the boy but seem to have failed to get any specific leads.
In the video Moran is seen seeking a ransom of 1 crore rupees on behalf of the militants.
"I request by mother, father, Sadia MLA and Assam CM to get me released. ULFA terrorists blindfolded me and brought me here. I am not well and miss my parents," the terrified boy is seen mouthing in the video.
The veracity of the video is yet to be ascertained.
Speaking to CNN News18, Ulfa General Secretary Anup Chetia denied the ULFA link and said he has doubts that Moran was kidnapped.
"Ratnaswer Moran is a small time BJP leader and he doesn't have the money to pay a 1 crore rupee ransom," Chetia said.
Mughdajyoti Dev Mahanta, SP of Tinsukia however confirmed that the ULFA was behind the act and all investigations point to the fact that the militant group is responsible for the abduction.
"The eastern command of ULFA is behind the act," Mahanta told CNN-News18.
