Unable to Bear 'Pain of Farmers', Sikh Preacher Shoots Self Near Singhu Border; Kejriwal Condoles Death
Singh had come to support the farmers at Singhu border on Wednesday morning and had even given a speech from the stage. Sant Baba Ram Singh served at the Nanaksar Gurdwara in Singhda village, Karnal.

Tragedy struck the farmers’ protest at the Singhu border on NH-44 when 65-year-old Sant Baba Ram Singh shot himself, leaving behind a suicide note. He was rushed to a hospital in Panipat but could not be saved. His body was then taken to Karnal Civil hospital.

In the suicide note, the priest wrote, “I saw the farmers’ plight and their fight on the road for their rights, I have seen the pain of the farmers, they are on the road for their right. I am deeply pained. The government is not doing justice. This is injustice, and tolerating injustice is sin.”

Singh further wrote, “Some people have protested by returning their awards. I am committing suicide in protest for the cause of the farmers.”

Datar Singh, state president of the Kirti Kisan Union said, “I condole the death of a religious person because he has given his life for the cause of the farmers and appeal to people to maintain peace so that the agitation can continue.”

Paramjit Singh of the Jai Kisan Andolan led by Yogendra said, “The tragedy struck around 4pm. Singh was taken to Park Plaza Hospital where he was declared dead. His body was then taken to Karnal Civil Hospital where it is still there. This is a big loss for the kisan andolan and the Sikh community, we have appealed to people to stay calm and maintain peace.

Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal condoled the death of the Sikh preacher. “The news of Sant Baba Ram Singh ji suicide is very painful. Sympathies to his family in this hour of grief. Our farmer is just asking for his right, the government should listen to the farmers and withdraw the three black laws,” Kejriwal tweeted.
