Tragedy struck the farmers’ protest at the Singhu border on NH-44 when 65-year-old Sant Baba Ram Singh shot himself, leaving behind a suicide note. He was rushed to a hospital in Panipat but could not be saved. His body was then taken to Karnal Civil hospital.
In the suicide note, the priest wrote, “I saw the farmers’ plight and their fight on the road for their rights, I have seen the pain of the farmers, they are on the road for their right. I am deeply pained. The government is not doing justice. This is injustice, and tolerating injustice is sin.”
Singh further wrote, “Some people have protested by returning their awards. I am committing suicide in protest for the cause of the farmers.”
