With Gurugram developing as a major economic and residential hub in the National Capital Region, several people have invested in the city to buy a dream home. But 51 buyers who have spent their hard-earned money in the Unitech Exquisite Housing scheme in Gurugram are battling to get possession of their houses.
The flats were to be handed over to the customers three years ago but even today, they are only yet to be fully ready.
Unitech Exquisite scheme was launched in 2010. The plan includes 312 luxurious 3BHK apartments in six towers. The minimum cost of a flat in the building is Rs 1.3 crore. The customers were promised that they will be given possession of flats within 36 months from the date of booking.
Colonel (Retd) Anil Batra moved from Kolkata to Gurugram to live with his family. He has a flat in the project but with no respite in sight, he looks perplexed about the way forward.
I don't have a roof over my head. What am I going to do? It's a rather sad state of affairs. Unitech is just not bothered. They are taking us all for a ride [name]Col Batra[/name]
The anger and frustration is also visible in the eyes of 75-year-old DP Bansal who has invested his life savings in the housing plan. "I have lost all my earnings to this project. The situation is such that now I am worried about my old age, I don't know how will we survive," he says.
There is so much stress as you really don't know what will happen to the money that has gone. I've paid almost 95% of the amount I was supposed to pay. It's a struggle," another buyer Mamata claims.
Many customers voice helplessness. "We are paying our EMIs for the last four years now, and there is no construction work happening. We don't know when will we get our flat. We are extremely agitated but there seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel," Amandeep says.
