HYDERABAD: The additional director-general police and director-general fire services, Vinay Ranjan on Saturday warned that they will put up a board saying 'Fire Unsafe Building', in front of hospitals who have not initiated fire safety measures.He also stated that owners of high-rise hospitals have been directed to shift generators and transformers to open areas for safety of the patients. Addressing a meeting with Andhra Pradesh Super Specialty Hospitals' Association, he said it has been noticed during inspection that most hospitals are utilising cellars by keeping generators and transformers which are strictly prohibited under any circumstances.He asked hospital authorities to prepare an emergency plan along with roll allocation to staff to be followed in cases of emergency. He also said the fire department is ready to guide architects on the National Building Code.GHMC commissioner MT Krishna Babu asked ASHA members to use cellars only for parking purposes. The hospital authorities should vacate the canteens, OP blocks, dormitories and pathological labs that have come up in cellars within a week's time, he said. The commissioner informed that out of 91 bigger hospitals inspected, 23 hospitals are using the cellar for other purposes. The commissioner asked ASHA members to post a fire safety officer in their respective hospitals to look after all fire prevention arrangements and asked them to conduct mock drills once a month. He also asked them to involve the fire department once in a quarter during the mock drill. The commissioner also said GHMC will organise for oneday work shop for fire safety officers.
