US Open: Cilic knocks out Murray, to face del Potro
Second seed Andy Murray slumped out of the US Open in the fourth round.

London: Second seed Andy Murray slumped out of the US Open at the fourth round stage on Tuesday, producing a dismal performance in a 7-5, 6-2, 6-2 defeat against Croatia's Marin Cilic.

Murray, who recently climbed above Rafael Nadal in the world rankings and was widely tipped to win his first Grand Slam title here, fell apart after failing to take two set points on the Cilic serve at 5-4 in the first set.

He dropped serve at 5-5 and Cilic, the 16th seed, never looked back as he dominated a subdued opponent who never got close to the kind of tennis that took him to the final against Roger Federer 12 months ago.

Cilic broke serve twice in the third set and clinched victory on his first match point to book a quarter-final against dangerous Argentine Juan Martin del Potro.

Del Potro powers past Ferrero

Juan Martin del Potro powered his way past Juan Carlos Ferrero of Spain 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 on Tuesday to reach the quarter-finals of the US Open.

The tall sixth-seeded Argentine boomed 22 serves against Ferrero and never lost serve to the 2003 French Open champion in their Louis Armstrong Stadium match.

Del Potro, who reached his first Grand Slam semi-final at this year's French Open before falling to eventual winner Roger Federer, had 44 winners as he dominated his 24th-seeded opponent in two hours, eight minutes.
