New Delhi: If you’re an American and you want to learn Hindi, don’t panic if you’re not getting a tutor. All you have to do is to watch some Bollywood films and get the hang of the language.
About 20 American students, who arrived in Jaipur from the US on an educational tour as part of New York State Independent College Consortium for six weeks have watched Lage Raho Munna Bhai, Dhoom 2 and Don to hone their knowledge of Hindi.
The students, as part of the programme, will be learning to speak some Hindi, getting a taste of Rajasthani cuisine, watching Hindi movies and celebrating festivals.
“We were into this course at University of Rajasthan and enjoyed the course to enrich our knowledge,” news agency PTI quoted a master's student from New York, Amanda as saying.
Amanda, who came as a student on her two earlier visits, is a member of the faculty on her third visit to the Pink City.
When asked about exercises they were asked to do to enhance their knowledge of Hindi, Amanda said that the students were asked to watch more and more Hindi movies.
"We have stayed as paying guests with a typical Indian family. With our landlords and landladies, we are asked to speak only in Hindi. Apart from watching movies, we also had on and off interactions with the locals in Hindi which includes everyone from rickshaw puller to a tea vendor,” PTI quoted her as saying.
"Bahut kuch seekh gaye hain (we have learnt a lot)", she said.
