Surendra Kumar Agarwal, the grandfather of the 17-year-old Pune Porsche driver who ran two software engineers, was on Thursday questioned by the crime branch after he stood surety for the teenager’s bail and assured the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) that the minor would mend his ways.
On Wednesday, News18 had accessed documents that showed Surendra Kumar was named in a shootout case in Pune that was registered at the Bund Garden police station and later transferred to the CBI.
According to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which has charge-sheeted the boy’s grandfather, he allegedly contracted Chhota Rajan in 2009 to execute Shiv Sena corporator Ajay Bhosale.
Meanwhile, the Regional Transport Office (RTO) has issued a notice to the accused’s father regarding absence of number plate and provisional registration on his Porsche car.
The department has asked him to file a reply within three days. If no response is received within three days, provisional registration of the vehicle will also be cancelled.
Police claim that the 17-year-old was drunk while when he fatally knocked down two motorbike-borne software engineers in the Kalyani Nagar area while driving his Porsche car.
The teenager’s father, a builder, was arrested in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and brought to Pune.
The Madhya Pradesh-based parents of the victims have sought stringent punishment for the accused boy as well as his parents, accusing them of being responsible for the death of their children.
The deceased were identified as 24-year-old Anish Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta. While Ashwini hailed from Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh, Anish belonged to Birsinghpur Pali in Umaria district of the state.
“We were supposed to send her off in a ‘doli’ (palanquin to the groom’s house) after her marriage (in future), but now we were forced to carry her ‘arthi’ (bier),” Ashwini’s inconsolable mother Mamata Koshta was quoted by PTI.
