KOCHI: Thrikkakara has started stinking again. The squad which was formed with much hype for nabbing persons throwing waste in the open spaces in Thrikkakara is in limbo. The squad comprising the Health Standing Committee chairman, health inspectors and councillors was performing quite well at the outset and the people of Thrikkakara were a relieved lot. But the issue has begun to haunt them again.Health Standing Committee chairman, Thrikkakara Municipality, V D Suresh, said, “It is true that the squad is not as active as it was before. But we also got to know that people in Padamukal Kambiveli colony were messing the area by strewing garbage around. But we could not act against them as they do not have any facilities to dispose of the waste. About 150 small houses, each built in a very limited area of about one and half cents are left with no other option as they could not afford the services of the Kudumbasree,” he said.He said that the activities of the squad dampened as they didn’t want to have a tussle with them. Initially, the squad had nabbed a lot of people who were spotted dumping waste on whom a fine was also imposed. Most of them were living in the outskirts of the city. “We have asked the councillor of the area to make a common arrangement so that the people of the Padamukal Kambiveli colony can dispose of the waste there. Arrangements can also be made to collect garbage from the area,” he said. He said that the councillor has assured to convene a meeting in this regard.
