New Delhi: The Congress Party said RJD Chief Lalu Prasad 'is a dependable ally' and it will not disown him despite the loss in the Bihar Assembly elections.
"He stood by our party through thick and thin. Therefore, there is no question of ditching him," AICC General Secretary in charge of Bihar, Digvijay Singh said.
"Why should we ditch dependable allies?" he asked, pointing out that "it is normal in politics to win or lose elections."
Digvijay agreed with that the poll outcome would have been different had the RJD-led alliance got support from LJP and CPI.
He said in the February elections the anti-Lalu vote was split. This got consolidated in favour of the NDA.
Replying to a question, he said the defeat of the RJD-led combine was due to the anti-incumbency factor as RJD was in power for 15 years in Bihar.
He underlined that the RJD-Congress stand on issues in Bihar was consistent.
Asked if the Congress has any regrets over its alliance in Bihar, he replied in the negative.
He said the Congress support to the RJD in Bihar was the continuation of the support that "we are getting from the RJD for our government at the Centre".
