Garfield's act as the superhero is a stark contrast from what Tobey Maguire played in filmmaker Sam Raimi's series.

New Delhi: A character can be loved or loathed simply because of the artist who plays the part. An actor always makes or breaks a character. Each actor brings his own style to the character and has the potential to make the simplest of the character the high point of any film.

Which is why Andrew Garfield, who plays Spider-Man in Mark Webb's series on the popular comic book superhero, is a far better option than actor Tobey Maguire, who played the part un till 2007. Garfield makes the bumbling, nervous Peter Parker brash yet charming, a young teenager who may have demons of the past to fight, but still is this suave, witty American teenager who has a job of a superhero.

Garfield's act as the superhero is a stark contrast from what Tobey Maguire played in filmmaker Sam Raimi's series. While Maguire's take on the superhero was more conventional, Garfield's rendition to the same role is more relatable in present times. You almost felt sorry for Maguire's Spiderman while Garfield makes you smirk in so many of the scenes with his witty repartee. He makes the friendly neighbourhood Spiderman party while on the job. Before saving the world, he always has a few wisecracks rolled up his sleeves for the villain. He engages them as well as the viewers with quick repartee. And that's perhaps how Superheroes should be, no? We love Tony Stark aka Iron Man for his charm and wit, don't we?

While giving credit to Andrew Garfield for making Spider-Man charming is important, it is also important to give equal credit to writer James Vanderbilt who transforms Spider-Man in 'The Amazing Spider-Man' series, making him a regular young boy who has to deal with break ups and being dumped and instill hope (in his own unique way) in mankind.

Garfield, who started of as a theater actor and got noticed for his performance in 'The Social Network', had raised quite a few eyebrows when he was cast as the new Spider-Man. Ardent fans of the super successful 'Spider-Man' series were skeptical whether a rank newcomer would be able to outshine Maguire who had comfortably made his place as the web spewing superhero in the audience's mind. But Garfield added a completely new dimension to the character, outshining Maguire in more ways than one.
