Hisar: A former woman station house officer in Hisar, accused of running a honey-trap racket, is on the run ever since Haryana vigilance officials caught her driver red-handed accepting bribe.
The Hisar police had recently suspended Hisar Women Police Station SHO Saroj Bala for allegedly trapping men and implicating them in false rape cases, however, her whereabouts are not known yet.
Scores of local residents alleged that the officers probing that matter have “colluded” with Bala as several big names are involved in the matter.
Residents threatened to launch a protest if the accused SHO was not arrested at the earliest.
The lady SHO has been accused of running an extortion racket wherein she used young women to trap men by calling them to hotels and then threatening to implicate them in false rape case.
The SHO would then step in to ‘settle’ the matter for which she demanded huge amount money from, sometimes even running into lakhs.
Saroj Bala’s driver was caught red-handed by Haryana vigilance officials on April 28 for accepting bribe of Rs 70,000, and before he could spill the beans, she went underground.
The vigilance had arrested Surender Singh and one hotel manager, Yogesh, on the complaint of a Bhiwani man who was ‘trapped’ by the lady officer.
Saroj Bala had demanded a sum or Rs 3 lakh for subverting the matter, but the deal was struck for Rs 70,000. The lady SHO was supposed to get Rs 60,000, while the driver and hotel manager were to share the rest.
Bala has been booked on charges of corruption and conspiracy and other relevant sections of the IPC and the Prevention of Corruption Act. The girl who had called him to the hotel in Hisar had surrendered before the Vigilance Bureau.
