NEW DELHI: Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa is on his way out.The decision to this effect was taken at the meeting held at the residence of NDA working chairman L K Advani on Monday itself, where leader of Opposition Sushma Swaraj, BJP president Nitin Gadkari and Karnataka BJP president K S Eswarappa were present.The leaders were of the view that given the seriousness of the indictment of Yeddyurappa by Lokayukta Santosh Hegde, his position has become untenable.It is learnt that it was only after the meeting with Advani and Sushma that Gadkari held a press conference at the party headquarters asking for the resignation of Prime Minister and Chidambaram and even went ahead to disclose that the party would decide on Yeddyurappa’s fate after the submission of the report. Gadkari was confident that Yeddyurappa would abide by the decision of the high command.According to sources, Yeddyurappa’s ouster came up for discussion at the NDA meeting on Tuesday, where the BJP allies, including NDA convenor Sharad Yadav, were assured that an appropriate decision would be taken on Yeddyurappa.Ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, the NDA leaders held a meeting at Advani’s residence to decide their strategy to take the Congress-led UPA government head-on, particularly when former telecom minister A Raja has named both the then Finance Minister P Chidambaram and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for being in the loop on the irregularities in the 2G spectrum allocation.Asked about the resignation of Yeddyurappa, Yadav admitted that the CM must go, but was evasive on his ouster, saying that it was up to the BJP to take the call.It is learnt that Yeddyurappa has given an assurance to the BJP president that he will step down if the leadership so desires. The report to be submitted to the state government by the Lokayukta would be analysed by the BJP central leadership and discussed with the Chief Minister, before he is asked to step down. The decision, however, may be taken as early as Wednesday, as the BJP high command is convinced that they cannot mount pressure on the Congress- led UPA government, unless they themselves take bold decisions to set their own house in order.The possibility of going for dissolution of the Assembly is ruled out, as the BJP is in no mood to sacrifice its first elected government in the south. The issue of finding a successor to Yeddyurappa will be taken up only after his ouster.
