When BJP leader B S Yeddyurappa took on his party government in the Assembly, his target seemed to be his friend-turned-foe and former chief minister D V Sadananda Gowda.
Participating in a debate on the prevailing drought, Yeddyurappa said the government was not prepared to deal with it, and had failed to hold sufficient stock of fodder and provide jobs to poor people under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme (MGNREGS).
Though Yeddyurappa did not take any names, it was obvious that he was targeting Gowda as Shettar took over as chief minister only recently.
“There is laxity in administration and programmes to help girl child, aged and physically challenged. The programmes are not being implemented properly. Now, the government should set a timeline to clear the pending programmes,” he said.
He also suggested the government not to take up any new work.
According to him, the government should instead focus on effective implementation of programmes that have already been announced.
The former chief minister hinted at the possibility of early elections. “The government should take up the work on a war footing as the state may go to elections early or even the election code of conduct may come in its way to take up some works,” he said. Yeddyurappa said he would tour the state from August first week to monitor drought relief works by staying in villages.
