In a shocking turn of events, Korean actor Nam Joo-hyuk has been accused of bullying someone when the actor was in school. Nam Joo-hyuk is a popular name in the K-drama world. Some of his best works include Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo and Start-Up. The actor was most recently seen in the popular K-drama Twenty-Five Twenty-One.
On Monday, the Korea JoongAng Daily reported that South Korean publication The Days News carried a report featuring an anonymous tipper who accused Nam Joo-hyuk of bullying the unnamed person in school for 6 years. The incident of bullying allegedly took place between middle and high school. As proof, the tipper presented a picture allegedly from the yearbook. The accuser claimed that Joo-hyuk was part of a group that bullied other classmates, beat up, cussed out, took their money, and more.
“They would hurl curse words at students and hit them every day, not to mention pushing the students to cut in line during lunchtime. They would frequently force other students to bring them snacks from the store and throw mechanical pencil lead from behind," the accuser claimed.
Addressing the claims, Management SOOP issued a statement. As translated by Soompi, the agency said that they confirm ‘all the relevant information is not true in the slightest.’ The management added, “The agency will promptly request a correction report from the Press Arbitration Commission (PAC) against the media outlet responsible for seriously damaging the actor’s reputation through false reports. Furthermore, we will file criminal charges against the reporter of the media outlet that first reported [the claims] as well as the anonymous source. The agency has requested this case to our legal advisor today in order to proceed with legal actions, and we are in the process of carrying them out."
“The actor and his family are the ones who experienced the greatest pain due to the vague gossip and rumors that are thoughtless and not confirmed in the slightest. No matter how the agency or actor reveal an official statement denying the reckless articles that take on an attitude of ‘whatever if it is false’ and do not even check the truth and only rely on groundless rumors online, the current state leads to [the actor] being branded with a scarlet letter, which the agency really cannot help but feel distressed and regrettable about," they added.
The agency has also decided to take severe legal action against the claims and ensure that the guilty person is punished. “We will also take legal action with the reference materials we have already collected through our monitoring. We earnestly request that you please refrain from spreading groundless rumors or making speculative reports. With continuous monitoring, we will respond sternly through various angles. Thank you," the agency concluded the statement.
