There are people who like talking about helping the environment, and then there are people who actually do something about it. Indian music composer and environmentalist Rick Kej belongs to the latter group of people.
Ricky has always encouraged people to do their part in reducing damage done to the Earth. Taking a step further into making people understand that fashion can be worn twice, he walked the Cannes 2022 red carpet in the same outfit he adorned at the 64th Annual Grammy Music Awards 2022, earlier this month.
Taking to Instagram, Ricky posted a note describing why he chose to repeat the Grammy’s outfit, he himself put together. The post read: Fashion Can Be Trendy Twice. ReWear your outfits for different occasions and do your part in reducing damage dealt to the Earth. This year, I was on 2 of the biggest stages in the world – the Grammy Awards & Cannes Film Festival and chose to wear the same outfit. (sic).
He further added, “Fast fashion isn’t always fashionable. Especially when we consider its impact on our planet (The fashion industry is one of the most polluting on the planet) The use of toxic textile dyes, cheap materials, and massive use of water & translates to environmental pollution. (sic).
In a video byte, Ricky shared that he is not ‘ashamed about repeating outfits’ in fact, he said: ‘Earth doesn’t remember what you wore, but the earth remembers how you treat the planet’.
According to Ricky, for decades, repeating an outfit for galas and events would be considered a fashion blunder. Thus, encouraging people to switch up outfits for every event, making clothes ‘Single Use’. He strongly believes that it’s time to change that narrative and it’s time we consider our planet in this equation. Fashion Can Be Trendy Twice.
The navy blue bandhgala with gold button placed diagonally on the outfit, was paired with white kurta and a set of pants. The only difference in Kej’s look was that at the Grammys he let his hair down, and at the Cannes he tied it up.
Ricky was part of the Indian contingent comprising I&B Minister Anurag Thakur, music composer A R Rahaman, filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, lyricist Prasoon Joshi, actors R Madhavan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui.
