The auspicious Ashtami of the Navratri, a significant Hindu festival will be celebrated on Friday, October 11. Dussehra, ie- Vijaya Dashami, marks the end of this festival and will be celebrated on October 12. The Kalash immersion is also performed on this day. However, this time, there needs to be clarity regarding the exact date of the Kalash immersion. Astrologer Pandit Nand Kishore Mudgal of Deoghar shared the solution to this confusion with Local18.
According to the astrologer, the afternoon immersion of Kalash and Goddess Durga’s idol on Shravana Nakshatra Dashami Tithi is considered auspicious. Hence, the visarjan of Goddess Durga idol and Kalash on October 12 is going to be auspicious. The astrologer added that the correct time for the immersion is after 2 PM on October 12.
On October 10, Saptami Tithi will be observed till 12:30 pm and then Maha Ashtami Tithi will start and last till 06:52 on October 11. He advised devotees to not observe fast on October 10 as Ashtami Tithi with Saptami Tithi is coinciding and is not considered auspicious. Pandit Nand Kishore suggested that the fast should be observed on Ashtami when it coincides with Navami Tithi. As per the astrologer, the fast can be opened on the Navami day after sunrise.
This year, Ashtami Yukt Navami is on October 11 and Navami tithi will last till 06:52 am on October 12, so the devotees can observe Ashtami fast in the morning. The Dashami Tithi starts after 06:52 am on October 12.
Guidelines for the Navratri Fasting
1. Devotees should consume fruits, dry fruits, nuts and dairy products.
2. People are advised to use desi ghee for preparing food for the festival.
3. Devotees should follow a Saatvik lifestyle in the Navratri days which implies that they should not consume non-vegetarian food.
Eggs, garlic and onion are also prohibited during these days. These foods are known to interfere with spiritual practices.
4. The fast should be opened after sunset and the people should avoid taking heavy food items. It can cause problems in digesting the food.
