Dehydration is common in the summer. All the heat and sweat takes away the water from our bodies, and it is often recommended to keep drinking lots of water during the summer. However, even after drinking enough water, our bodies don’t feel hydrated, and it can be because of the things we eat. Yes, it is true, not just the scorching heat, but the foods we eat also lead to dehydration in the body. Therefore, it is always better to keep a check on the things you consume in summer. Recently, the nutritionist Lovneet Batra shared a few foods that can cause dehydration.
Captioning the video, Lovneet wrote, “Hydration is important. And, drinking water is wellness 101, but what you might not know is that there are some foods that can work against you, actually causing you to be more dehydrated. ” Furthermore, she sheds light on the foods to avoid to prevent dehydration, and they are:
Coffee
Caffeine is highly dehydrating, and overconsumption of coffee can inhibit the absorption of sodium in our body. Coffee and tea are diuretic in nature and can easily take away the moisture.
Diet Soda
Sodas are high in sugar and have a hypernatremic effect as well as being diuretic. They take away the water from the tissues, leaving the body to feel dehydrated. While they are best for feeling refreshed, you might feel dryness in your throat after drinking them.
Alcohol
Alcohol is the biggest culprit that makes you feel dehydrated. It makes the body lose its moisture and can even cause a burning sensation in the stomach and chest. Alcohol has many side effects, and it is just one of them.
High Protein Intake
People who are on a high protein diet can feel more dehydrated than others. This is because the body needs all of the water to break down the nitrogen that is already in proteins.
Salty Snacks
Sodium-rich foods are a big no-no if you are dehydrated. Sodium sucks the water from the cells and makes us feel dried up. When we indulge in eating salty snacks, our kidneys start pulling water from other parts of the body to rectify sodium absorption. This leads the body to become short on fluid.
