Filmmaker Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, who has directed Kangana Ranaut in her National Award winning role in Panga, has reacted to the actress being conferred with the honour. The movie follows the story of Jaya, played by Kangana, a working mother who makes a comeback in kabaddi after bearing a child.
Ashwiny said, “I am very happy. It’s an honour. I recollected the day when I first met her (Kangana) for the movie. It was on April 14, 2017 when I first told her about this idea and narrated the screenplay to her. I told her that this is my character and I am envisioning her for long now. She said yes to the movie on the spot. I just feel very humbled today. I feel she did complete justice to my vision. I know her character in Panga touched a lot of hearts. I know that there are many women who aspire to dream big even after having a child. The way Kangana enacted, getting all those emotions out, it is a very difficult thing to do. And that is what she did brilliantly. She got Jaya alive. She is the representation of women who don’t stop dreaming. So congratulations to Kangana for putting my vision out there.”
Meanwhile, Kangana also shared her reaction on winning the National Award, her fourth, on social media in a video. She thanked Ashwiny for writing the part of Jaya and directing the film.
Ashwiny’s husband, filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari’s movie Chhichhore has also bagged the honour for the Best Hindi Film at the 67th National Film Awards. Reacting to the big win, Ashwiny said, “We were both shooting an ad film. The first call we got was saying ‘Congratulations, the National Award is with the Tiwari family.’ I was pleasantly surprised. It’s a part of me in the family, so of course I am very very happy for Nitesh and Sajid (Nadidadwala) Sir.”
