'It Didn't': Ragini Khanna On Whether Being Govinda's Niece Helped Her
She talked about her experience of being related to such a big name and if it ever helped her career.

The Indian entertainment industry boasts a plethora of actors and actresses who are related to some of the biggest superstars. However, not all of them reap the benefits of their illustrious family names. Television actress Ragini Khanna, niece to 90s superstar Govinda, recently shed light on her experiences regarding this familial association within the industry.

Govinda, the iconic star of the 90s known for his blockbuster comedy hits, is related to several prominent television personalities, including Krushna Abhishek, Aarti Singh, Soumya Seth and Ragini Khanna, all of whom are his nephews and nieces. Ragini Khanna, recognised for her roles in shows like Radhaa Ki Betiyaan Kuch Kar Dikhayengi and Sasural Genda Phool, shared her perspective on how being connected to such a renowned name has impacted her career.

In a recent media interaction, Khanna candidly expressed that being Govinda’s niece hasn’t necessarily provided her with any special advantages in the industry. She emphasised, “It is not. He is a very, very big star. Firstly, I am not his daughter. I love Namu (Tina Ahuja), I love Yash (Yashvardan Ahuja), I love them too much.” Khanna highlighted the disparity between how actors are perceived in the television and film industries, lamenting the prevalent notion that television is often regarded as inferior to movies.

Khanna shared her desire for this perception to change, advocating for equal respect and opportunities across both mediums. Despite her familial ties, she asserted that success in the television industry is based on individual merit and not merely on family connections. Despite not being able to meet Govinda for four years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Khanna revealed that she maintains close ties with his family, often attending functions and visiting his home during festivals.

Ragini Khanna embarked on her acting journey with the serial Radhaa Ki Betiyaan Kuch Kar Dikhayengi in 2008, followed by her notable portrayal in the comedy show Bhaskar Bharti in 2009. She gained further recognition for her role in the Star Plus series Sasural Genda Phool. Beyond acting, Khanna has also showcased her versatility as a host on various popular television shows such as Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa and India’s Best Dramebaaz.

Ragini Khanna’s career trajectory exemplifies her dedication to her craft and underscores the importance of talent and hard work in achieving success in the entertainment industry, irrespective of familial connections.
