James Cameron Confirms Watching Alien: Romulus, Reacts To Roland Emmerich's 'Overbearing' Remark
The Oscar-winning director spoke about his recent projects along with Avatar and Alien: Romulus.

James Cameron, the mastermind behind several award-winning films and also an Oscar-winning director, has spilled the beans about his upcoming projects. In a recent conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Cameron also opened up about his new National Geographic documentary, OceanXplorers, alongside a few upcoming releases like Alien: Romulus, Terminator Zero and Avatar 3, aka Avatar: Fire & Ash.

To begin with, the 69-year-old expressed his immense passion and knowledge about “all things oceanic,” in line with his upcoming series OceanXplorers. Cameron described it as “one of the most ambitious ocean adventures ever filmed.” “Pulling it off always feels like a miracle. They’ve all been very carefully planned. But when you go in the ocean, the ocean hasn’t read your script — you never know what’s going to happen. You got to be very flexible, and you got to be ready to move quickly. When something does manifest itself, those doors open for moments,” he said.

Noting that he doesn’t believe that extraterrestrial life ever visited Earth, he added, “I’ve never seen anything that couldn’t be explained in the sense of some extraterrestrial phenomenon. Now, “belief” is a principle that I don’t have. I don’t believe things.”

The acclaimed director also revealed that he had watched Fede Alvarez’s Alien: Romulus, further adding that he had sent the best wishes for the film. “I think Ridley (Scott) did because Ridley was an actual producer on the film. So I’m just putting it in perspective,” Cameron added.

During this conversation, the director refrained from sharing any information about his own Terminator project that he is working on. “It’s totally classified. I don’t want to have to send out a potentially dangerous robotic agent if you were to talk about it, even retroactively,” he said.

In reaction to Roland Emmerich’s remarks about him being “overbearing,” Cameron had the sharpest reaction. “I’ve never said anything negative about Roland. But anyway: yes, I’m overbearing. Damn right. When it’s a project where I’ve contributed to the writing, I might actually have an opinion on it. I actually don’t even remember talking to Roland Emmerich about Fantastic. I remember the other directors that we worked with for months on end, trying to develop that project. If I talked to Roland, it was for two minutes. I have a pretty good memory, and I don’t remember that at all,” he told the outlet.

While Cameron has been trying to remake the 1966 film for years now, Roland was earlier a part of it but later exited in 2007.
