James Gunn Clears Up Rumours About Superman Set Music

The upcoming Superman film, featuring David Corenswet as Clark Kent and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, is less than a year away from release. As anticipation grows, DC’s new head, James Gunn, has been transparent about the film’s development and has been actively debunking false rumours. One such rumour suggested that Chumbawamba’s 1997 hit Tubthumping was heard playing on set. Gunn quickly took to his Threads handle to clarify that the song was not played during filming, though he didn’t confirm whether it would be part of the movie’s soundtrack.

The situation began as reports indicated that a video game set in The Batman universe is currently under development. When a fan asked James if the news was accurate, he simply denied the rumour. Unexpectedly, the filmmaker also took the opportunity to address another rumour about Tubthumping being part of the movie’s soundtrack in the same post. He wrote, “There is also no truth to Tubthumping by Chumbawamba being played on the set of Superman (this is a real rumour on Reddit someone just sent me).”

James Gunn was possibly referring to a Reddit post that included a leaked photo from the Superman set. In the post, it was mentioned, “RUMOUR: -Tubthumping by Chumbawamba was played on set of Superman. It COULD be used in the soundtrack. Kendra (Hawkgirl) renounces the LordTech label by the end of the movie.”

As per Warner Bros. Discovery, Superman “tells the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”

Other than David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan, Superman will also feature Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Sara Sampaio will be seen as Eve Teschmacher, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Terence Rosemore will be Otis, Skyler Gisondo to play Jimmy Olsen, Anthony Carrigan is Metamorpho, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion is Guy Gardner, María Gabriela de Faría plays The Engineer and Milly Alcock to appear as Supergirl. The DC movie is scheduled to release on July 11.
