Jigra Director Vasan Balan Deletes X Account Amid Alia Bhatt Starrer’s Box Office Failure
Jigra has not worked its magic at the box office. While the Alia Bhatt film struggles to keep the ticketing window busy, director Vasan Bala quit X.

Director Vasan Bala deleted/deactivated his account on X after the failure of Jigra. The filmmaker was active on the social media platform and would often interact with fans as well. However, following the box office failure of the Alia Bhatt starrer film, the director seemed to have decided to get off the platform. On Sunday, several social media users noticed that his account doesn’t exist anymore.

“This post is from an account that no longer exists,” reads the message on the landing page of his account. The filmmaker continues to remain on Instagram and has been actively reposting positive feedback about Jigra on his Instagram Stories.

Coincidentally, Vasan Bala’s move also came after he broke his silence on the various accusations made against the film. Addressing the poor box office collection of the film, Vasan told The Hollywood Reporter India, “For me, it has always been a struggle to put the film out. But this time, it was a given that the film was going to be out and in a big way. So this is a first for me, and I don’t even know how to process this. What I do know is there is a certain responsibility in the mainstream to deliver (at the) box office.”

When asked if he felt he had let down Karan Johar and Alia Bhatt, Vasan admitted, “I do feel it. I feel it majorly. I mean, they are supremely supportive, and there is no ounce of letting me feel like this. It is something that I have to grapple with.” The director also highlighted the necessity of being receptive to criticism to keep moving forward in his filmmaking journey. “It is never graceful to defend a film after a point,” he added.

The director also noted that there was a heightened scrutiny when it came to Jigra’s release. “Obviously, there will be much more scrutiny now,” he remarked, adding, “Because I have taken a mainstream star and the film has not done the numbers. So I think the more open I am, the chances are that I will make some more films.”

Jigra has been under the scanner for several reasons. Beside the poor box office reception, the film has also been accused of faking box office collections. Karan Johar was also accused of pushing Alia for the opportunity after Vasan revealed that Karan had sent her the script before he had polished it.
