Kannada actor Sharan recently enjoyed a get-together with the cast members of his debut film Karpoorada Gombe, directed by S Mahendar. He tweeted some pictures along with the film’s female lead actress, Shwetha and hir family. Sharan wrote the caption in Kannada which when loosely translated means, “The friendship and mutual respect that started with Karpoorada Gombe remains the same even after 27 years.” According to the 52-year-old actor, if Shwetha and other people had not supported him during his debut, he would have not become a great actor. “Isn’t it fun when the whole family spends time with old friends?”, Sharan concluded the tweet with this statement.
Karpoorada Gombe was released at the cinemas in 1996 and was later dubbed in Tamil as Akka and remade in Telugu as Seethakka. Lokesh, Rekha Das, Master Anand, Ramesh Aravind and other actors also acted in Karpoorada Gombe.
Shwetha has now made a return to acting through a television soap opera titled Lakshmi Nivasa. She is one of the popular faces in the Kannada entertainment industry. She had a career spanning around 75 films in various languages and last acted in the 2003 release Kutumba. She has now returned to acting after a sabbatical of over 20 years. As of now, Shwetha is juggling between Chennai and Bengaluru as part of her work. Talking about her decision to return to acting, she told, “I took a long break to focus on my family, but acting has always lingered in the back of my mind. When I was approached for the Kannada serial, I realised the potential of the small screen and its vast reach. That’s why I decided to embrace this opportunity.”
Lakshmi Nivasa shows the emotional and financial struggles faced by the couple Lakshmi and Srinivasa against a middle-class household. The couple seeks to build their own home and seek a comfortable retirement. This show started after the ending of the serial Gattimela which enjoyed a spectacular viewership for 5 years. The show, spanning over 1243 episodes, secured the best climax rating for any Kannada television show in History.
Shwetha is known as Vinodhini in Tamil and Malayalam cinema.
