Actor-singer Kyla Pratt, known for her work in popular television shows and the Dr. Dolittle franchise, is set to star in a psychological thriller for her next. Titled The Memo, the film will show the first-hand account of a woman navigating the corporate ladder. Adapted from Harts’ best-selling book of the same name, the film will also feature music from female rapper and musician MC Lyte. According to the announcement, it will be a short film, which is also the first project from Valeisha Butterfield’s Seed Media.
Valeisha Butterfield earlier served as a former top executive with Google and the Recording Academy. She was also the national youth vote director for Barack Obama’s presidential campaign.

Kyla Pratt shared the film’s poster on her Instagram and wrote, “Did you get The Memo? OUR time is NOW. Read the book and had to be apart of the film!” Reacting to the post, Harts wrote, “You did your BiG One. Thank you for doing MINDA justice,” while Valeisha added, “Let’s go sister!!!! You are AMAZING and I am so thankful! Let’s do this!!”

“Women leaders are leaving their jobs at the most alarming rate in history. Entertainment pioneers in music, film, and television banded together to produce an explosive short film to address this widening gap with storytelling and music at its core,” the makers said in a statement. Directed by Vanna James and written/produced by Nakia Stephens, The Memo is presently in the post-production stage. Butterfield, Harts and Pratt, along with Modupé R. Congleton and Miatta Johnson, serve as executive producers.
Speaking about her experience, Kyla Pratt shared that she resonated deeply with the book and the script from the very start. “Coming from a lineage of resilient Black women and now raising daughters myself, the chance to portray the lead, Minda Harts, presented by Seed, was an unequivocal yes! As storytellers, it’s our responsibility to truthfully depict narratives and characters that empower others to feel acknowledged, understood, and liberated. I am honored to be the vessel that brings this amazing story to life,” she added.
