The Malayalam film, Kuruvi Paapa, billed as a family drama went on floors in 2023. It is now all set to release on the big screens on March 1. The anticipation for this film, directed by Joshy John, has been piqued because it is based on a real-life storyline.

Kuruvi is the name of producer Basheer KK and Jasmin’s second daughter. She is a 10th-standard student at Government Vocational Higher Secondary School, Kalamassery, Kochi, Kerala. Kuruvi’s student life has been replete with hardships as she was body-shamed for her skin colour and tone. She, however, learned to navigate through these obstacles and learned to dance from the age of five. Still, people do not give importance to her dancing skills and keep judging her based on colour and tone. Kuruvi not only faced the harsh remarks of the people but also lost the chance to perform at many venues because of her skin tone and slim body.

Kuruvi couldn’t remain resilient in the face of these difficulties for long. She left the school and tried to pour boiling water on her face due to the belief that the skin on the burnt parts would turn white. Fortunately for Kuruvi, her mother saw it and was able to stop her in time, thus averting a big mishap.

Besides dancing, Kuruvi is passionate about many other areas as well, including gymnastics. In these tough times, Kuruvi’s parents stood like a pillar of support for her. The motivation provided by the parents helped Kuruvi to showcase her dancing skills across many platforms. She has become one of the most sought-after actors in many leading channels in Malayalam, Tamil and Kannada. Basheer decided to name the film after the former Chief Minister O Panneerselvam called him Kuruvi Paapa’ after watching her dance during an event held in Tamil Nadu.

Kuruvi shared her experience of acting in this film in an interview with a portal. According to her, it is like a dream acting in a film. Kuruvi said that the relatives and friends who used to mock her are now congratulating her for this accomplishment. Kuruvi said that she feels slightly nervous but is not afraid as she is depicting the same hardships on the camera suffered offscreen.
