Shah Rukh Khan and Manisha Koirala starred together in the 1999 film Dil Se. During promotion for the upcoming Netflix series Heeramandi, Manisha praised Shah Rukh for his wisdom and humble demeanour. She recalled how, despite his fame, he would sit on the floor to have his tea, given his down-to-earth nature. Dil Se, directed by Mani Ratnam, remains their only collaboration on screen.
“What I really liked about Shah Rukh even back then, despite being a big star, he would have his tea sitting on the floor. I really admire that no matter how big a star you are, you are not flying, you are rooted,” said Manisha.
Director Tigmanshu Dhulia once mentioned how Shah Rukh Khan used to nap on the floor of a bus during breaks while shooting for Dil Se. Dhulia explained in an interview with Mashable India that due to the hectic shooting schedule set by director Mani Ratnam, lunch breaks were short and Shah Rukh would quickly eat before taking a power nap on the bus floor, without any fuss.
“He would take a nap on the floor of the bus. His boy would just put out a simple sheet for him on the floor and he would take a power nap. Shah Rukh never said that I am sleeping there,” Tigmanshu had shared.
Meanwhile, Shah Rukh Khan has said he’s keen to work with Mani Ratnam again. At the CNN-News18 Indian of the Year 2023, Shah Rukh even “begged” for a film with him. “Mani sir, what now?” he said to him, adding, I’m requesting you – I’m begging you – I’m telling you every time! Do a film with me, I swear, I will dance on top of a plane on Chhaiya Chhaiya, if you’d tell me.” To this, Mani Ratnam said he will do a film with SRK when he buys a plane. To this, Shah Rukh Khan said, “Mani, the way my films are going…this plane is not far away. I’m coming!”
