It was right out of a movie! How many times have police across the country heard these lines when questioning an accused in a murder or abduction plot. While cinema has often been inspired by real-life crime, it as times worked the other way too. The latest is the murder in Telangana?s Nagarkurnool where a woman who allegedly killed her husband and disfigured her lover?s face to pass him off as the former reportedly confessed she was inspired by the Telugu crime thriller Yevadu.
Yevadu
A woman murdered her husband and nearly swapped him with her paramour through plastic surgery. Sounds like a plot of a thriller? Well, surprisingly it is a real case of murder in Hyderabad. Inspired from 2014 Telugu film Yevadu, featuring Ram Charan, Allu Arjun and Shruti Haasan in key roles which revolves around the protagonist who gets plastic surgery and takes on a new identity to avenge his lover?s death. The case concerned also involves love and affection in a twisted sense.
Swathi, a 27-year-old nurse at a private hospital in the town, was married to Sudhakar Reddy for three years. However, she came close to Rajesh, a physiotherapist. They hatched a plan to first get rid of her husband and later disfigure Rajesh?s face to pass him off as Sudhakar.
The entire plot got revealed in the filmiest manner when Rajesh pretending to be Sudhakar refused to have mutton, confusing the relatives as Sudhakar was a hardcore non-vegetarian.
A chilly murder cover-up indeed!
Drishyam
Remember Ajay Devgn?s Drishym that made you question every ?aam-aadmi? and gave birth to the viral 2nd October meme? Well, the thriller also inspired Leena Sharma?s murderer to take a tip or two about how to dispose of the victim?s cell phone.
Like Drishyam protagonist Vijay, who stashed the murdered youth’s cellphone in a truck, Leena’s alleged killers tried to dispose of one of her two cellphones in a Jabalpur-bound train. The cellphone was spotted by a passenger who kept it after throwing away the SIM card in Piparia (Hoshangabad). Later the SIM was found by a man in Piparia on May 5, who inserted it into another phone set, automatically alerting Leena’s friend about something wrong having happened with Leena.
Later, the thread kept unravelling, resulting in the capture of the culprits and a nail-biting finish to this murder-mystery as well.
Special 26
In another Bollywood-inspired incident from Hyderabad, five armed robbers posing as CBI officials struck a Muthoot Finance branch in the city and left with 40kg of gold. Does it strike a chord? Well, indeed it should as the method is inspired by Neeraj Pandey?s Special 26 starring Akshay Kumar and Anupam Kher. In the film, a group posing as CBI officials raids a jewelry in Mumbai right under the nose of real Police. The film itself was inspired by the 1987 Opera House Heist at a Mumbai branch of Tribhovandas Bhimji Zaveri (TBZ) Jewellers. While leaving, the robbers also took with them the CCTV system at the branch. Employees and eyewitnesses told the police that they had dressed like officials and spoke Hindi and English.

Considered as one of Shah Rukh Khan?s finest performance, Darr, might have won the man many accolades, but the plot also inspired a psychopath to abduct the woman to win her love. Devendra, prime accused of the infamous Deepti Sarna abduction case, made an elaborate plan to abduct the girl and then win her love. According to SSP Ghaziabad Dharmendra Singh, several of his accomplices helped in the abduction, but none of them knew what he was up to.
Devendra saw her for the first time in 2015, at the Rajiv Chowk metro station when she was with a male friend identified as “Mr A". He felt infatuated and allegedly started stalking her. He had an eccentric streak. He knew what she wore, what she ate, whom she met. Much like Rahul?s obsession with Kiran. The accused himself admitted being deeply influenced by the Yash Chopra film.
