Nag Ashwin BREAKS SILENCE On Criticism About Kalki 2898 AD's First Half: 'In A Three-Hour Film If...'
Nag Ashwin said that it has been a universal response that the film's first half is slow.

Nag Ashwin’s directorial project, Kalki 2898 AD, was released in cinemas late last month amid much fanfare. The film is shattering records at the box office and is getting rave reviews from the critics and the audience alike. However, one common observation that people have is that the first half of the film is “slow”. Nag Ashwin has reacted to this in a recent chat.

“It has been a universal response that people found the first half slow, and it’s very valid. In a three-hour film, if viewers liked two hours and 54 minutes, I will take that,” the Hindustan Times quoted the director as saying.

He added, “A movie like this is beyond us. The ambition was bigger in the sense, there was a larger thing at stake than just us. Many makers were waiting for the result of this sci-fi film. If it didn’t work, it would have closed doors for more years.”

Nag Ashwin recalled that it was “very difficult to get the finances” in place as the pre-production began during the Covid-induced lockdown. However, they had a saving grace. He said, “Luckily, we did have the biggest star cast of our country, so we had a little bit of a cushion there. Plus the previous films we (the producers) have done together, worked, so there was goodwill on that front.”

Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, and Amitabh Bachchan starrer Kalki 2898 AD is getting an overwhelming response from the audience. Recently, Amitabh Bachchan took to his social handle and penned a gratitude note for the film’s success. He took to his X handle and wrote, “T 5062 – the essence of KALKI resounds within and without .. and my gracious gratitude.”

The Nag Ashwin film heavily draws inspiration from Mahabharat. Kalki 2898 AD is set in a dystopian future and revolves around four people — a pregnant woman named Sumathi (Deepika Padukone), who is said to be carrying a child that is the 10th avatar of Vishnu; the immortal Ashwatthama (played by Amitabh Bachchan) who has been tasked to protect the unborn child; a ruthless villain named Supreme Yaskin (Kamal Haasan), who wants the child dead for he knows the child will be the end of the baddie; and Bhairava (Prabhas), a bounty hunter who would sell anyone in return of money.
