Rajinikanth-starrer Lal Salaam To Release On OTT Soon: Reports
Netflix has reportedly acquired the digital streaming rights for Lal Salaam, while Sun TV has purchased the satellite rights.

Aishwarya Rajinikanth’s recent film, Lal Salaam, earned just Rs 15.7 crore in its first nine days, falling short of expectations despite Rajinikanth’s involvement in the project. The film, which stars Rajinikanth as Moideen Bhai, was released on February 9 and features music by AR Rahman. According to sacnilk.com, the movie’s earnings on its tenth day were even lower, bringing in just Rs 0.41 crore at the box office.

Unconfirmed reports are suggesting that Lal Salaam might be released on Netflix on March 8, but an official confirmation is awaited. Although the film was praised for its genuine intentions, it fell short of delivering a captivating experience. An early release on OTT platforms could potentially help it reach a broader audience. According to reports, Netflix has acquired the digital streaming rights for the film, while Sun TV has purchased the satellite rights.

According to industry trends, all new Tamil movies typically debut on streaming platforms after a four-week exclusive theatrical run. This pattern is observed across various films, from blockbusters like Leo to medium-budget productions like Singapore Saloon. Most of these movies have followed this trend, having their digital premieres within about five weeks. However, this practice has led to debate between producers and other stakeholders in the box office business. Despite protests from exhibitors and distributors, this trend persists without any signs of slowing down.

Lal Salaam is reportedly inspired by real-life incidents that occurred in Tamil Nadu. Filmmaker Aishwarya Rajinikanth worked alongside journalist Vishnu Rangasamy to develop the screenplay, focusing on the profound impact of communal politics. The film is believed to offer a poignant perspective on the significance of communal harmony among individuals from diverse religious backgrounds.

At the musical event held on January 26, Aishwarya spoke openly about the term ‘Sanghi’ and its connection to a political party. She made it clear, stating, “Rajinikanth is not a Sanghi. If he were, he wouldn’t have participated in a film like Lal Salaam.” Aishwarya’s heartfelt defence of her father brought tears to Rajinikanth’s eyes.
