Some actors in Bollywood experience a stupendous start, promising them a successful career ahead. Due to a number of reasons, they are unable to continue as a successful name in the film industry. Something similar happened with Himanshu Malik, the lead actor of the successful 2001 film Tum bin. Bollywood can be a very unpredictable industry for many. One may experience great success at one point, but to retain it and continue working is the biggest challenge. Tum Bin star Himanshu Malik amassed great popularity when the film was released back in 2001. But he did not not get any good opportunities thereafter. In a 2022 media interview, the former actor recalled his journey in Bollywood, starting from Tum Bin. He mentioned that the film was a sleeper hit and revealed that they (the cast of Tum Bin) were not offered much work after it.
Himanshu Malik started his career as a model, before entering the film industry in 1996. He appeared in music videos for popular songs like Afreen Afreen, sung by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, opposite Lisa Ray. His other notable music video appearances include the song Deewane Hoke Hum by Sonu Nigam. He was seen opposite Sandali Sinha in the clip. He debuted in Bollywood with the film Kama Sutra: A Love Story, released in 1996. The film is directed as well as written by Mira Nair. The cast of the film includes Naveen Andrews, Sarita Choudhury, Ramon Tikaram, Rekha and Indira Varma.
Himanshu got his big break through the film Tum Bin, released in 2001. Directed and written by Anubhav Sinha, the film starred Priyanshu Chatterjee, Sandali Sinha, Himanshu Malik, Raqesh Bapat and Amrita Prakash. It is produced by Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar under the banners of T-Series and Anubhav Sinha Productions.
After his appearance in Tum Bin, Himanshu Malik Khwahish, LOC Kargil, Rakht and many more. In 2022, he made his directorial debut with the film Chitrakut. During a media interview, he mentioned a shocking experience he went through. He claimed that a big publication asked him to fake an affair, to boost his career.
Talking about his decision to quit acting, Himanshu Malik said that he did not desire to be a typical Bollywood hero. According to him, he wanted to do something “meaningful” with his life. Later, when his acting career did not work out, he ventured into direction.
