Farhan Akhtar married Adhuna Bhabani in 2000. She is 7 years older than him. The couple dated for 3 years, and then they finally got married. According to reports, they first met during the shooting of his directorial debut film Dil Chahta Hai, which released in 2001, where Adhuna Bhabani made her debut as a Bollywood hairstylist.

The couple welcomed two children after their marriage — two daughters, Shakya and Akira. With time, their bond started to degrade, the duo decided to part ways and finally announced their separation in 2016, after 16 years of their married life. Their divorce was finalised in April 2017, with Adhuna Bhabani having custody of their children.

After the breakup of his first marriage, Farhan Akhtar found love again. He started dating Indian-Australian singer, actress, host, and model Shibani Dandekar in 2018. The couple bonded over their mutual love for fitness and never looked back. On February 19, 2022, Farhan Akhtar and Shibani Dandekar tied their knot at the actor’s Khandala farmhouse. Shibani Dandekar is seven years younger than Farhan Akhtar.

Farhan Akhtar worked as an apprentice in film distribution and direction for Yash Chopra’s Lamhe (1991), when he was 17 years old and later moved to an advertisement production house named Script Shop to spend an approximate 3 years there. He assisted director Pankaj Parashar in the film Himalay Putra (1997) before embarking on his own directorial and writing career.
