Jungkook, the youngest member of BTS — South Korea’s popular K-pop group, will be attending the 2023 Global Citizen Festival. The event will be held at Central Park in New York on September 23. Organised by Global Citizen, a New York-based international civic group, the ceremony is conducted to urge youngsters to take prompt action on prevalent issues like extreme poverty, gender inequality, and climate change among others. The Global Citizen Festival which first commenced in 2012 witnessed the arrival of notable celebrities including Rihanna, Demi Lovato, and John Mayer to name a few who enthralled fans with their robust performances. This time, Jungkook will be the first K-pop soloist who will be headlining the special occasion.
Jungkook will be sharing the stage with the rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers, American rapper-singer Lauryn Hill, Brazilian singer-songwriter Anitta, rapper Megan Thee Stallion, and other music sensations, reports Billboard. In a press release, Jungkook shared his excitement and gratitude for getting the opportunity to take part in the Global Citizen Festival. “I’m so thrilled to join this year’s Global Citizen Festival as a headliner! The festival sheds light on important causes and drives action and I’m happy to take part in it. I can’t wait to perform in front of many people at the Great Lawn in Central Park,” he said as reported by Variety.

Jungkook previously took part in the 2021 Global Citizen Live held in Seoul with the rest of the BTS members. At that time, they shared the stage with the famous rock band Coldplay. The global event was also attended by 65 other artists from six continents joining the cause for environmental protection and resolving poverty-related issues. Jungkook’s participation in the Global Citizen Festival comes at a time when the singer is already basking in the success of his first solo song SEVEN which is currently reigning in the number-one position at the Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard Global 200.
Although the tickets to the global event are available for free, people wishing to attend the ceremony are required to take action for the betterment of society, sign petitions for promoting gender equality and mitigating poverty, or bring the attention of global leaders to take necessary measures. The masses can also participate in several other social activities available on the official website of the Global Citizen. The festival will be streamed on the platform as well as Hulu Instagram, Apple TV, and Amazon’s Prime Video among others, reports Billboard.
