The IOC Session is the general meeting of the members of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). It is the supreme organ of the IOC. The IOC Session adopts, modifies and interprets the Olympic Charter and its decisions are final. While the IOC Session may delegate powers to the IOC Executive Board (EB), all important decisions are taken by the IOC Session, which votes on proposals put forward by the EB. If the IOC EB can be considered the “government” of the IOC, the IOC Session is the “parliament”.

An IOC Session is attended by its 99 voting members, 45 honorary members, one honour member and leadership representatives from more than 50 International Sports Federations, which are part of the Summer and Winter Olympic Games.

It is expected that the IOC Session 2023 will bring 1000 members of the Sporting World’s elite as well as global media to Mumbai, India, from over 150 nations and representing over 50 world sports. This includes heads of sports federations like wrestling, basketball, hockey, badminton athletics and more. Head of state from Qatar, Jordan, Monaco, Luxembourg, Bhutan, Royalty from Britain and Liechtenstein.

Among the whos who of the sporting world who are in Mumbai for the 141st IOC Sesssion are IOC president Thomas Bach and other IOC Members, including two-time Olympic 1500m champion and World Athletics president Sebastian Coe, FIFA president Gianni Infantino, seven-time Olympic swimming medallist and Chair of the IOC Coordination Commission Dakar Youth Olympics 2026 Kirsty Coventry, Prince Souverain Albert II of Monaco, two-time Olympic pole vault gold medallist Yelena Isenbaeva, two-time Olympic 10000m silver medallist and National Olympic Committee of Kenya President Paul Tergat, Olympic pole vault gold medallist Sergey Bubka, Olympic shooting champion Abhinav Bindra, to name a few.

Mumbai was elected as the host of the 141st IOC Session by an overwhelming 99 per cent of the votes from the delegates participating in the process, with 75 members endorsing its candidature to host the IOC Session in 2023. The decision entailed India hosting this prestigious IOC meeting for the first time in 40 years when New Delhi hosted the prestigious event in 1983.
