Lehar Khan On Working With Shah Rukh Khan In Jawan: ‘He Put Me At Ease’

Jawan, featuring Shah Rukh Khan, which hit theatres on September 7, has emerged as a resounding box office hit. Directed by Atlee, the film has garnered praise for its spectacular stunt sequences and the stellar performance by the cast. Among the talented cast members was actress Lehar Khan, who portrayed the character of Kalki, the determined daughter of a farmer seeking justice for her father’s suicide, and who joins forces with Shah Rukh Khan’s group. Lehar recently revealed her initial nervousness before a crucial shot and how the megastar himself reassured her. Furthermore, she shared that Shah Rukh Khan later appreciated her performance.

In a conversation with India Today, Lehar Khan discussed the emotional experience of filming the metro heist scene with Shah Rukh Khan. For the scene, she had to carry a lot of props and was visibly nervous about it. She recalled, “My collar was uneven, and I was struggling with it. Suddenly, SRK sir just came out of nowhere, and he fixed my collar. He picked up all my props. Since it was an emotional scene for me in that shot, he calmed me down completely. He could tell that I was a little nervous. He put me at ease with his gentle, warm behaviour. He also appreciated my performance and said, ‘Mashallah, you’re a very good actor.’ That’s going to stay very close to my heart forever.”

Further, Lehar Khan also shared that there are a few things she learned from Shah Rukh Khan. She said that he believes that every actor should carve their own niche and therefore he never gives “straightforward tips”.

She added, “He rehearses his part till the time he perfects it. And then he gave his takes. He doesn’t waste many takes. You can see that he is very experienced. He still has that passion in him.” Another aspect that Lehar picked up from Shah Rukh was that as an actor one needs to stay lively. She stated, “I just want to work hard and make my character look different. Something about it should stand out.”

Lehar Khan was previously seen in movies such as Jalpari: The Desert Mermaid in 2012 and Parched in 2015. Recently, she was also part of Brahmastra. Meanwhile, apart from Lehar Khan, Jawan directed by Atlee cast stars including Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, Priyamani, Sanya Malhotra and others in key roles.
