A major fire broke out at a slum in Bhayandar area near the Azad Nagar Maidan in Mumbai’s Mira Road early on Wednesday morning, killing one person and leaving three persons injured.
The area where the fire broke out consisted of godowns and huts and as per sources several people could be trapped inside.

The control room received information about the fire at around 5:30 am following which 10 vehicles of fire brigade were rushed to the spot.
The reason for the blaze is yet to be ascertained.
Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) Commissioner Sanjay Katkar told PTI, “The Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation is trying its all to control the fire. Total 24 fire brigade teams are at the spot. I hope the fire will be brought under control in the next one hour.”
The occupants of huts and other residents of the locality ran out of their homes after the blaze erupted, said Katkar who was overseeing the rescue and relief work at the site.
Some explosions were heard in the locality, according to sources. A charred body was found at the site and sent for post-mortem to a government hospital, MBMC’s disaster management cell chief Narendra Chavan told PTI.
“We have got to know that two children have been injured and admitted to hospital. One of our jawans has also been injured,” Katkar said.
