Mumbai News: The 10-day long Ganesh Chaturthi festival which began on Tuesday, September 19, will conclude on September 29

The Mumbai traffic police has issued a traffic advisory for the Ganpati Immersion days, prohibiting entry of heavy vehicles on the road in Greater Mumbai on September 23. 25 and 28.

The traffic police in its statement said that this order is to ensure maintenance of smooth flow of traffic and procession in Greater Mumbai, while also preventing obstruction and inconvenience to the public.

According to the order, the prohibition on entry of heavy vehicles on the Greater Mumbai roads will be as follow:

– Fifth Day Gauri Ganapati Immersion: September 23 (1 am to 1 am next day)

– Seventh Day Ganapati Immersion: September 25 (11 am to 1 am next day)

– Anant Chaturdashi Ganapati Immersion Day: September 28 ( 10 am to 6 am next day)

However vehicles carrying vegetables, milk, bread and bakery products, drinking water tankers, petrol, diesel and kerosene tankers, ambulances, government and semi-government vehicles and school buses would be exempted from this order.

The 10-day long Ganesh Chaturthi festival began on Tuesday, September 19 and will conclude on September 29. The festival is celebrated with great deal across the country, but holds a special importance in Mumbai, where huge ‘pandals’ with gigantic Ganesha statues are set up in multiple parts of the city.

Ahead of the Ganeshotsav, Mumbai Police on Monday announced traffic arrangements put in place to avoid congestion on roads during Ganeshotsav celebrations from September 19 to 29. More than 11,000 police personnel will be deployed in the city during the festival.

Earlier the police said that traffic restrictions will be in place in different parts of the city during Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations from September 19. However, there will be no curbs on vehicles supplying essential commodities.

“To avoid traffic congestion during Ganeshotsav celebrations during September 19th to 29th, following traffic arrangements have been done in Mumbai City. Citizens are requested to follow the revised traffic arrangements,” Mumbai police wrote in an X (formerly Twitter) post.

As per a previous notification issued by the police, a complete restriction was placed on movement of all types of heavy vehicles and private buses in south Mumbai on September 21, 24, 26 and 29.

During the celebrations, more than 2,000 officers (ACP to PSI) and 11, 726 police staff will be deployed in the city.
