Samantha Ruth Prabhu has experienced her share of highs and lows in recent years. Despite facing personal challenges, the actress remained determined and committed to her work. Earlier this year, with promising projects on her plate, Samantha made the brave decision to take a break and prioritise her health. She was diagnosed with myositis, an autoimmune disease last year and decided to seek treatment. In a recent interview with Harper’s Bazaar, the Kushi actress candidly discussed her priorities and the constantly running behind success, a never ending race where it’s unclear who’s truly winning.
The actress said, “When I went down last year, I didn’t get to move out of my house for a good amount of time. I promised myself that once I felt better I would take a break, I would travel and I would live a little. Because 13 years of not taking a break, running a race that no one knows who’s winning and then also, winning what exactly. Because once you get one blockbuster, you just want a bigger blockbuster and another best actor award. It’s never ending.”
“So I think taking this break also proves a point to myself that I’m not looking for external validation. I’m really glad that I have made that switch and am prioritising experiencing life a little, living in the moment, and getting time to spend with people I love. And I know this is only going to make me a better actor. Experiences are the best teachers and they show in your performance,” Samantha added.
During the same interview, Samantha Ruth Prabhu opened up about her failed marriage with Naga Chaitanya and how she deals with challenging phases in her life. She shared that facing a failed marriage, along with health and work issues, felt like a triple blow. She addressed that many people might not have faced what she went through in the last couple of years. During that period, she turned to stories of other actors who had faced health problems, made come back or dealt with online criticism and anxiety. These stories provided her with the strength and inspiration to believe that if they could overcome such challenges, she could too.
The Makkhi actress understands that being a star in the country is a privilege and encourages people in the spotlight to take the responsibility, to be genuine and to share their real stories. She believes that it’s not solely about the number of super hits or awards they have won, but also about the pain, struggles and difficult moments.
On the work front, Samantha will feature in the Indian adaptation of the spy thriller series Citadel, opposite Varun Dhawan. Additionally, she is set to appear in a Hollywood film called Chennai Story, directed by Philip John.
