Arijit Singh can be hailed as one of the most prominent singers in Bollywood. Be it the soul-stirring Bedardeya or the heartfelt Apna Bana Le, the 36-year-old never fails to touch our hearts with his amazing vocals. Apart from his exceptional singing talent, Arijit Singh is loved by the masses for his humble and down-to-earth personality. And it seems like the credit goes to veteran actress and folk-pop singer Ila Arun. Recently, an old video surfaced on the internet which shows Arijit Singh breaking into tears in front of Ila Arun, for breaking her trust. The video is from the time when the singer joined Fame Gurukul as a contestant where Ila Arun was the headmistress.
The video was dropped on Reddit on Wednesday, September 21 along with a caption that read, “The reason Arjit Singh is so down to earth.” Arijit Singh was just 18 years old when he participated in the television reality show Fame Gurukul. It aired on Sony TV back in 2005. The throwback clip opens with a young, teary-eyed Arijit apologising to Ila Arun for an undisclosed mistake that he committed. “You are not even allowing me to touch your feet, you are not talking to me. If you continue doing this I will become mad. I respect you the most,” confesses Arijit to Ila Arun while sobbing. His gesture was a sure-shot proof of his humbleness.

A stern-faced Ila Arun scolds the then-aspiring Arijit Singh for his mistake saying that her equation with Arijit was more than just a teacher. In reply, the Jhume Jo Pathaan singer shared that he considers Ila Arun to be like her mother to which Ila Arun also sheds some tears. She further made a statement about the possibility of Arijit Singh becoming a star later on in life, as quoted by Javed Akhtar back at that time. The video concludes abruptly with Arijit once again breaking into a pool of tears, hurt for upsetting Ila Arun.
Reddit users were quick to react to the video in the comment section. “I watched something too pure,” wrote one individual. “I absolutely loved what Ila Ji said,” noted another. “What a throwback,” commented a third user.
Unfortunately, Arijit Singh did not win the Fame Gurukul television competition. Contestants Qazi Touqeer and Ruprekha Banerjee lifted the trophy. Arijit bagged the sixth position due to low audience votes. The now-acclaimed singer’s last performance at the program was Lagan Lagi, sung by famous Academy Award winner singer Sukhwinder Singh.
