Did you know Dimple Kapadia was once told Akshay Kumar is gay and she had warned Twinkle Khanna about it? Yes, you read it right! Back in 2016, during the 5th season of Karan Johar’s chat show ‘Koffee With Karan’, the couple revisited their dating days and Twinkle revealed that a friend of Dimple had told the veteran actress that Akshay was ‘gay’.
It all happened when Akshay was at Twinkle Khanna’s place, meeting his mom to ask for her hand in marriage. Twinkle told Karan, “So, my mother and me are sitting together on the couch and he’s sitting opposite. My mother’s friend was there and he’s doing acupressure for her back or something. So my mother says, ‘I have to tell you something’. So, I said, ‘Tell me.’ ‘No, no, after he (Akshay) goes,’ she said. But when I insisted, she said that one of our friends was doing a piece on some gay (for a) newspaper and (he) says that Akshay is gay. So, I almost fainted!.”
Twinkle added that she had to convince her mom that they’d be happy together. To this, Dimple Kapadia responded, “You both live together for one year and then we’ll see.” And indeed, Akshay and Twinkle lived together for a year before tying the knot in 2001.
Twinkle also shared that she was only looking at a fling with Akshay since she had come out of a long-term relationship. “I had come out of a long-term relationship and I wanted to have a fling. There he was – six feet of chocolate ice cream. So, I decided I’m going to have a fling with him and it was going to last 15 days because that was the outdoor (shooting duration). I ran out of books in Calgary. There was no TV and I was really bored. And there he was. So, it was kind of perfect,” she said.
Karan added that Twinkle had once shared that if her film Mela flopped, she would marry Akshay. Akshay clarified, “Actually, I had asked her to marry me. She was very confident that Mela chalegi… I said ‘Agar nahi chali toh?’ She said ‘Okay, then I’ll get married to you’.”
Twinkle Khanna and Akshay Kumar have been going strong for 23 years now. They are blessed with two children – Aarav and Nitara.
