Disney Studios Thanksgiving offering, Wish, is speculated to eye a staggering $50 million (approximately Rs 345 crore) opening in theatres. According to a report by Deadline, if the predicted sum turns out to be true, Wish will emerge as the biggest original animated opening since 2017. The record is currently held by the animated movie Coco, the story of 12-year-old Miguel who accidentally gets transported to the Land of the Dead. Notably, Coco was also Disney Studios’ Thanksgiving release which reportedly minted about $72.9M (about Rs 600 crore) in five days.
What is the plot of Wish?
Directed jointly by Chris Buck and Fawn Veerasunthorn, the musical fantasy movie follows the life of a 17-year-old Asha from Rosas, a kingdom located off the Iberian Peninsula. She senses a dark aura over her rule King Magnifico and pleads to the stars to offer help in a moment of need. Unbeknownst to her, a star with magical powers of granting wishes, answers Asha’s plea. What follows suit is their banding together to curb the rise of darkness in Rosas and help her kingdom.
Voice cast of Wish:
Ariana DeBose voices the lead protagonist, Asha, while actor Chris Pine plays the sole keeper of Rosas. Alan Tudyk lends his voice to the character Valentino, a goat who can talk and Angelina Cabral voices the role of Queen Amaya, the wife of King Magnifico. In addition to this, Victor Garber, Natasha Rothwell, Evan Peters, Harvey Guillén, Ramy Youssef, and Jon Rudnitsky are some of the other artists joining the voice cast of the film.
When is Wish releasing?
The makers are gearing up to hold a world premiere of the film at Los Angeles’ El Capitan Theatre on November 18, just days ahead of the film hitting the theatres worldwide. In the US, the movie will make its way to the silver screen on November 22. But the Indian release date of Wish is scheduled to be November 24.
Notably, the animated film is pitted against Sony Studios and Apple’s Original Film Napoleon. Deadline suggests the movie will eye an opening of $24M (Rs 199 crore). Directed by Ridley Scott, Joker fame Joaquin Phoenix takes the lead role in this true story based on the life of the ruthless French military general Napoleon Bonaparte.
