An Uber driver has stated that he earned money by canceling customer rides. Not just this but he had accepted less than 10 per cent of requests and cancelled more than 30 per cent rides. The 70-year-old man chose to become an Uber driver so that he could earn some extra money post retirement.
He only took up requests which he felt were worth his time. Seems like this method of working turned out to be fruitful for him. In 2022, the man earned over Rs 23.3 lakh after canceling almost 1,500 trips.
However, he felt that surges in and around the area where he lives have become less common. This is why he decreased his driving hours.

Earlier, the man would work 40 hours a week but gradually he came down to 30 hours a week.
While speaking to The Business Insider, he explained, “I spend a lot of time saying no. I don’t work unless we have a surge.”
The driver positions himself in crowded locations like bars and airports between 10:00 am-2:30 am on Fridays and Saturdays. Then, he avoids “one-way rides”.
Recalling an incident, he said that he once drove a customer for approximately two hours from his city and got paid
Rs 2,246.
“I drive to get out and don’t need the money. I love it,” he said.
Meanwhile, earlier, a homeopathic doctor took to ‘X’ and shared her experience with an Uber driver. Bhumika shared how she received inappropriate messages from the driver who she just had a ride with. Deeming it as a ‘distressing situation’, Bhumika wrote that the incident has not left her feeling extremely uncomfortable and raised serious security and safety concerns. “I strongly believe that Uber should be a platform where customers, especially women, can trust the drivers and the overall experience. This incident has shaken that trust, and I am deeply concerned about the safety of female passengers who rely on Uber for transportation,” she mentioned in her post.
