South Indian clothing brand Nalli Silks is being slammed on social media for its recent Ad that features the models without a ‘bindi’. The tiny coloured dot on the forehead is associated with good luck and auspiciousness. The models not wearing a bindi while promoting the sarees from this brand was a topic of concern for many people on social media. Many took to social media platform ‘X’ and criticised the brand for the same.
The ad which is going viral shows the model decked up with a saree. However, she has styled the attire with the minimum jewellery. One thing that caught maximum attention of people was her empty forehead that did not have a bindi, especially during the auspicious time of Navratre.
“@NalliSilk rich tradition and heritage…wtf are you talking about. #NoBindiNoBusiness . Even the models in display picture don’t have bindi . What are they posing for… funeral??” wrote an ‘X’ user. Another person wrote, “Nalli is a traditional brand.. if people who purchase for wedding, festive season see such paazh nethi they wont be encouraged to even visit the shop assuming abasagunam.”
Here are a few responses:

Sad to see even a brand like @NalliSilk falling for the grumpy, no-bindi, mourning look! #NoBindiNoBusiness https://t.co/XJzFCilfek— Shefali Vaidya. (@ShefVaidya) October 18, 2023
@NalliSilk rich tradition and heritage…wtf are you talking about. #NoBindiNoBusiness . Even the models in display picture don't have bindi . What are they posing for… funeral?? pic.twitter.com/s4PhYqWtei— Kris (@krishd83) October 19, 2023

Why even use a female? Why don't you just put the saree on a mannequin the one without the head! Or even simpler, leave it in the box!#NoBindiNoBusiness @NalliSilk https://t.co/5pLLMfV0b9— Chef Ketaki Bhosale (@ket123us) October 19, 2023
Forget about bindi !!! She hasn’t even worn the saree properly !!! What a shame !!! https://t.co/KCdGRJvp5I— DS (@dripeesha25) October 18, 2023
Many people also pointed out how the model looked depressed. ‘X’ user Veena claimed to have raised this issue before. She said that the brand then responded by saying that it was a gesture of inclusion and respect to ‘other’ cultures.
What is your take on the same?
