Naseem Shah Ruled Out of Asia Cup 2023 in Huge Scare for Pakistan Ahead of ODI World Cup
Naseem Shah has been ruled out of the remainder of Asia Cup 2023 due to his shoulder injury, Pakistan received massive blow; Zaman Khan named replacement

Pakistan received a massive blow in their bid to reach the Asia Cup 2023 final as star pacer Naseem Shah has been ruled out of the remainder of the tournament owing to his shoulder injury. Shah injured himself during the match between Pakistan and Bangladesh in the Super 4 stage trying to stop a boundary.

While the 20-year-old did return in the game later and played against India too, completing his full quota of 10 overs, the pacer’s injury aggravated against the Men in Blue and he didn’t come out to bat in the match.

Subsequently, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have confirmed that Naseem has been ruled out of the remainder of Asia Cup 2023, while Zaman Khan has been named as his replacement.

Furthermore, Naseem isn’t the only worrying factor and injury concern in the Pakistan squad with Haris Rauf also nursing an injury and as a precaution, he didn’t bowl his full quota of overs against India.

Pakistan’s bowling coach Morne Morkel had revealed on Monday that the star pacer had felt some inflammation after undergoing scans and didn’t bowl his remaining five overs hence.

Pakistan suffered a massive 228-run defeat at the hands of India and face a crunch do-or-fie fixture against Sri Lanka to reach the final of Asia Cup against Rohit Sharma’s men.

Team doctor Sohail Saleem said: “These two fast bowlers are our assets and the team’s medical panel will provide them the best possible care ahead of the all-important World Cup.”

Zaman Khan is a right-handed pacer who has already played in T20Is, and has joined up with the squad in Colombo. In his past six T20Is, Zaman has four wickets at an average of 32.5, with an economy of 6.66.

A press release issued on Wednesday, September 13 confirmed that the medical team of PCB will monitor Shah’s progress ahead of the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023. The PCB further informed that Rauf has ‘continued to recover well’ in their latest release after he felt discomfort in his right flank.

Shahnawaz Dahani had also been called up by PCB after Shah and Rauf had picked up their respective niggles.
