A video of Chief of Naval Staff Admiral R Hari Kumar doing push-ups with the cadets at the National Defence Academy has taken the internet by a storm. The admiral was visiting his alma mater — the Juliet Squadron of NDA — and joined in on the celebrations of winning the Champion Chiefs of Staff Banner.
As the powered-up cadets marked their victory with tradition push-ups, they were joined in the exercise by the Admiral.

Taking to X, the Indian Navy’s official handle posted the video and wrote, “An exhilarating moment as #CNS joined the enthusiastic cadets marking their triumph with traditional push-ups. #FitIndia #75_GYC_GRAND_FINALE_NDA”
Posted on Wednesday, the video has garnered over 74,000 views and 1900 likes on the microblogging site.
Social media users were left impressed by the Admiral joining the cadets and commented under the Navy’s post. One of the users wrote, “The cadets have been left with a tale of a lifetime .. When CNS visited the sqn.”
“Awesome gesture, Sir ! Salute to the senior Jaguars !! Hopefully, some day Jaguars will be able to match the “Lions”, rulers of the jungle called The Academy,” another user wrote.
Another user hailed the Admiral’s fitness and said, “Awesome fitness at such age and high pressure job and responsibility – proud of Indian Navy and CNS.”
Admiral R Hari Kumar took charge as the Indian Navy chief on November 30, 2021. Prior to this, Admiral Kumar was serving as the Flag Officer Commanding-in-chief of the Western Naval Command.
The Admiral — born on April 12, 1962 — was commissioned into the executive branch of the Indian Navy on January 1, 1983.
During his distinguished career spanning nearly 39 years, the Admiral served in a variety of command, staff and instructional appointments. His sea command includes INS Nishank, missile corvette INS Kora and guided-missile Destroyer INS Ranvir.
Admiral Kumar also commanded the Indian Navy’s aircraft carrier INS Viraat. The Admiral also served as Fleet Operations Officer of the Western Fleet. Before taking over as FOC-in-C Western Naval Command, he was the Chief of the Integrated Staff Committee of headquarters, Integrated Defence Staff.
He has undergone courses at the Naval War College, the US, Army War College, Mhow and Royal College of Defence Studies, the UK.
Admiral Kumar has also been decorated with the honours of Param Vishist Seva Medal (PVSM), the Ati Vishist Seva Medal (AVSM) and Vishist Seva Medal(VSM).
