In the latest development to the controversy surrounding Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann being “drunk” on a flight, Union Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Tuesday said he would look into the allegations that Mann was deplaned from a Delhi-bound Lufthansa airlines flight at Frankfurt airport as he was inebriated.
“This was an incident on international soil. We will have to make sure that we verify the facts. It is up to the Lufthansa airline to provide the data. Based on the request that has been sent to me, I will certainly look into it,” Scindia told reporters on the sidelines of an event in Delhi.
The claim of Mann being drunk on the flight was dismissed by the AAP and also Lufthansa airline, which tweeted its version of the episode, with no mention of the Punjab chief minister allegedly being deplaned.

Trashing the allegations, AAP chief spokesperson Malwinder Singh Kang said, “The dirty tricks department of our political opponents are spreading these canards, to defame our CM. They cannot digest that CM Mann is working hard to get investment in Punjab.”
Scindia’s statement comes after the leader of the opposition in the Punjab assembly Partap Singh Bajwa wrote a letter to him, seeking an inquiry into the matter. Earlier, Akali Dal leader Sukhbir Badal also sought an inquiry.
Mann returned from his eight-day trip from Germany on Monday where he had gone to attract investments.
Defending Mann, AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal said the Opposition is trying to defame the Punjab chief minister and spreading lies as it cannot find faults in his work. “All this is a lie, all nonsense. The Opposition is trying to stop Mann but people are watching. They are happy with his work,” Kejriwal said in poll-bound Gujarat.
