Top 10 Batters With Fastest Centuries in ODI World Cup History, Ft. Glenn Maxwell, Rohit Sharma
Glenn Maxwell slammed the fastest century in World Cup history, surpassing Aiden Markram, check here top ten batters who hit the fastest centuries in the tournament.

Glenn Maxwell etched his name in the record books as he hit the fastest century in the ODI World Cup history, in just 40 balls, surpassing the record of Aiden Markram.

Maxwell hit 106 runs in just 44 balls at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi against the Netherlands, surpassing Markram’s tally who had also scored the previous fastest hundred in 49 balls at the same venue.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma also features in the list of the top ten batters who have hit the fastest centuries in World Cup history.

From Glenn Maxwell to Matthew Hayden, check the top ten batters with fastest centuries in ODI World Cup history: 

1) Glenn Maxwell

Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell came up with a historic knock of 106 in 44 balls, reaching his second-only World Cup hundred in just 40 balls. Facing the Netherlands, Maxwell slammed his fifty in just 27 balls and needed only 13 more balls to reach his century.

2) Aiden Markram

During the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, Aiden Markram slammed the second-fastest century in the history of the tournament, hitting a 106-run knock, needing 49 balls to etch his name in the record books. His inning came against hapless Sri Lankan attack with Quinton de Kock and Rassie van Dussen also hitting centuries.

3) Kevin O’Brien

Kevin O’Brien played one of the most memorable knocks in World Cup history, and helped Ireland tame the mighty England in the 2011 edition. O’Brien reached the three-figure mark in 50 balls, at Bengaluru, and his record stood still for more than a decade, before Markram and Maxwell bettered it.

4) Glenn Maxwell

Surprisingly enough Maxwell has only scored two World Cup hundreds, and both feature in the top five of the fastest centuries in the tournament. Maxwell’s maiden World Cup hundred came against Sri Lanka in Sydney in March 2015 when he breached the hundred mark in 51 balls.

5) AB de Villiers

AB de Villiers played a surreal knock of 162 against West Indies in the 2015 World Cup, it came in Sydney and the Proteas batter needed 52 balls to score his century which was the fifth fastest in World Cup history.

6) Eoin Morgan

Former England captain Eoin Morgan lit up the 2019 World Cup at home with a special knock of 162 runs against Afghanistan in Manchester. Morgan needed just 57 balls to surpass the three-figure mark, hitting the sixth-fastest ton in World Cups.

7) Heinrich Klaasen

Heinrich Klaasen loved the Wankhede Stadium as he smashed a century in just 61 balls during the ODI World Cup 2023 contest against England. He would go on to nearly smash another century a few days later at the same venue, but his stellar inning against England was also Klaasen’s best in his own words as he battled heat, humidity and cramps as well, giving South Africa a memorable 229-run win.

8) Rohit Sharma

Indian captain Rohit Sharma is ranked number 8 on the list of fastest centuries in World Cup history, the Hitman has the most centuries in World Cups (7), but his 63-ball effort against Afghanistan in the Arun Jaitley Stadium during the World Cup 2023 was his fastest.

9) Kusal Mendis

Sri Lanka’s star batter Kusal Mendis hit a century against Pakistan in just 65 balls, and he would go on to score 122 runs to give Sri Lanka a memorable win at the Uppal Stadium in the ODI World Cup 2023.

10) Matthew Hayden

Australian stalwart Matthew Hayden hit the 10th fastest century in World Cup history, back in 2007, against South Africa. Hayden scored his ton in 66 balls, at Basseterre in an unforeseen display of attacking cricket back then.
