New Delhi: BJP slammed the protest on Tuesday by AAP workers outside Arun Jaitley's house as a "political gimmick" and said that the ruling party in Delhi was trying to divert people's attention away from its inefficiencies by making baseless allegations against rival leaders.
BJP, which is the main Opposition in Delhi, also lashed out at the Arvind Kejriwal-led government saying that rather than ensuring the welfare of the people, its priority was to get publicity in the media. "He (Kejriwal) can do anything, he can say anything. But he is unaware of the ground reality that he is betraying the people who put trust in him. This is political blackmailing. The way AAP protested outside Jaitley's house after making baseless allegations is blackmailing," said Delhi BJP chief, Vijay Goel.
Jaitley is the leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha. BJP also slammed AAP MLA Madan Lal who on Tuesday alleged that senior BJP leaders Narendra Modi and Jaitley were trying to topple the Delhi government. "Novices are running the government. They allege that we want to topple their government, and that too Jaitley and Modi. If we had to do that, we would have formed the government earlier.
"They are now behind us because they know BJP is coming to power at the Centre under Modi," Goel alleged. Referring to AAP's decision to hold a special session of the Assembly outside its premises to pass the Jan Lokpal Bill, Goel said it was another move by the party to get publicity.
"The AAP government has not done any work in its first 30 days which could help the people of Delhi in any way; instead they have created more controversies than anyone else," he said. "The objective behind all this is not to find a solution to the problems of Delhiites, but the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. It is essential for them to stay in the limelight for that," he added. Citing media reports, Goel called for the resignations of AAP ministers Manish Sisodia and Somnath Bharti for their alleged involvement in cases of corruption.
